In a world filled with distractions and darkness, the Lord's call to awaken is more urgent than ever. As we navigate the complexities of life, it's easy to fall into spiritual slumber, but the consequences can be disastrous.

The Lord's call echoes through the ages: "Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give you light" (Ephesians 5:14). Today, we're summoned to awaken from our spiritual slumber, to shake off the lethargy that hinders our walk with God. 

Imagine a driver navigating a treacherous road, only to doze off behind the wheel. Disaster awaits! Similarly, as Christians, we must stay alert, meditating on God's Word, and studying it diligently. Philippians 2:12 urges us to "work out our salvation with fear and trembling." Ask yourself: "Am I sleeping?" Wake up from your slumber, and let your light shine!

As children of light, we're called to live differently. Sin can cause us to sleepwalk through life, but we must put away the works of darkness (1 John 2:15-17). Instead, seek first God's kingdom (Matthew 6:33). Follow peace with all men, and pursue holiness (Hebrews 12:14). We're not just passengers on this journey; we're ambassadors of Christ, carrying His light to a world in darkness.

To stay awake, we must meditate on God's Word, letting its truth transform us, renew our minds, and guide our steps. We must surround ourselves with things that edify the soul, nurturing our spirit, and fueling our passion for God. 

We must avoid distractions that lead to spiritual slumber, recognizing the enemy's tactics to keep us asleep. We must pursue a life of holiness, free from sin's entanglements, and empowered by the Holy Spirit.

When we awaken to our spiritual reality, we'll experience a deeper intimacy with God, rooted in fear and reverence (Ecclesiastes 12:13), and characterized by a profound sense of awe and wonder. We'll live a life of purpose, shining our light in a world that desperately needs it, and reflecting the beauty of Christ. Our testimony will inspire others to seek God, demonstrating the transformative power of the Gospel.

The time is now to awaken, to live purposefully, and to shine our light. Don't let distractions or challenges keep you in spiritual slumber. Wake up, and let your life be a beacon of hope. Fear God, keep His commandments, and walk in His ways. May God help us to stay awake, and fulfill our calling as children of light, shining brightly in a world that needs Jesus.

Sermon Title: Steps to the Throne

Text: 1 Samuel 16:1-13, 10:1-25

It was a spiritually awakening message centered on the divine principles that guide one’s journey to the throne, a metaphor for elevation into greater honour, influence, and divine authority. The “THRONE” here represents a realm where your voice is not only heard but matters in the corridors of decision-making. It is a place of divine prominence, purpose, and fulfillment.

The foundational truth is this: Before one can ascend to the throne, heaven must first command the earth. Until divine instruction stirs the natural order, nothing meaningful can shift (1 Samuel 16:1). Samuel had thought God's choice was limited, but heaven redirected him to the house of Jesse, where a young man, already qualified and divinely prepared, awaited anointing.

Among Jesse’s sons, not all were divinely connected. Though Eliab and Abinadab appeared qualified externally (1 Sam. 16:6–8), they were not God’s choice. Divine selection supersedes human preference. David, the least expected, was chosen. He wasn’t even initially present, yet the entire ceremony was delayed until he arrived—ushered in with what could be called a prophetic guard of honour. This highlights how heaven orchestrates honour when you are God's chosen.

Before one sits on the throne, mentorship and spiritual guardianship are essential. Saul was anointed by the prophet Samuel but was never a prophet himself (1 Sam. 9). A spiritual guide is someone whose spirit you trust, who prays with and for you, and who covers your journey with intercession and wisdom. They are your compass in seasons of transition.

In 1 Samuel 19:17–18, David’s path to the throne caused a rift in Saul’s household. Jonathan, Saul’s son, even rejected the throne for the sake of God's agenda. Sometimes, the path to your throne will require difficult separations and divine disruptions. Loyalty must be to purpose over familiarity.

Humility was a defining trait in David’s rise. Even when opportunity came to take Saul’s life, he refrained. True throne-bearers understand restraint, patience, and submission to God’s timing.

There’s always a mark that sets God’s chosen apart. For Saul, it was his impressive height; for David, it was his countenance and courage. This distinction isn’t always physical, it may be character, generosity, or grace under pressure. David’s triumph over Nabal in 1 Samuel 25 further shows how maturity and generosity paved his way.

The God who places you on the throne is the same who sustains you there. Proverbs 10:22 reminds us: "The blessing of the Lord makes rich, and He adds no sorrow with it." Unlike Saul, David’s reign had divine endorsement because his heart aligned with God’s will.

The path to the throne is not a straight highway but a spiritually guided journey. It requires divine connection, prophetic mentorship, humility, distinction, and absolute alignment with heaven’s will. The throne isn’t seized—it is bestowed. And when God enthrones you, no force can dethrone you. In this season, may heaven locate and prepare you for your place of honour, in Jesus’ name.
