Text:​2 Corinthians 10:4–5

The Scriptures declare that “the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds.” A stronghold is more than a fortress; it is a controlling power, a place of influence where authority and dominion are exercised. While God is our eternal Strong Tower, there are also demonic strongholds; m territories of wickedness designed to cage destinies, hinder progress, and resist fruitfulness.

From the very beginning, God blessed mankind with the mandate to “be fruitful, multiply, replenish the earth, and have dominion” (Genesis 1:26–28). Fruitfulness is not a suggestion, it is a divine command. It means to be abundantly productive: spiritually, physically, financially, and generationally. Unfruitfulness is an insult to the divine order; it displeases God and contradicts His purpose for creation.

But why do some lives remain unfruitful? What empowers these strongholds to stand against divine increase?

Strongholds that resist fruitfulness:

i. Disobedience: Nothing destroys fruitfulness faster than rebellion against God’s word. Deuteronomy 28:14makes it clear that blessings are tied to obedience, while curses follow disobedience. The story of the prophet in 1 Kings 13:24–26 warns us of how ignoring divine instructions can cut short destiny.

ii. Distractions: Worldly pursuits and misplaced priorities weaken fruitfulness. A man who chases shadows cannot lay hold of substance. Jesus said in Matthew 6:33, “Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.” When heaven is not first, fruitfulness becomes a struggle.

iii. Broken Relationship with God: John 15:1–5 tells us clearly: Christ is the True Vine, and without abiding in Him, no man can bear fruit. Broken fellowship with God creates dryness. A Christian without consistency in prayer, Word, and holiness becomes vulnerable to barrenness.

iv. Laziness: Proverbs 6 rebukes the slothful spirit.Fruitfulness demands diligence, study, skill, and excellence. Laziness is a silent killer of destiny.

v. Missed Opportunities: Fruitfulness also requires discernment. Some doors open only once in a lifetime. When we delay or despise divine opportunities, the enemy hijacks the moment. A fruitful man is a watchful man.

 

vi. Divine Judgment: There are times when unfruitfulness comes as a result of dishonor or disobedience to God. Michal, the daughter of Saul, died barren (2 Samuel 6:23) because she mocked the anointed. When we dishonor God’s ways, we cut ourselves off from His blessings.

Beloved, the power of darkness thrives on these weaknesses to dominate lives, but the good news is that Christ has already given us victory! At Calvary, every curse was broken and every yoke of unfruitfulness was destroyed.
