Sermon: The Divine Alignment/Calibration

Preacher: Pastor Oba Adeyemi

Text: Matthew 6:5

Introduction: The Standard Clock

In the olden days, before digital automation, setting a wristwatch was a task of precision and patience. You didn’t just guess the time; you went looking for a Standard Clock. You had to watch the seconds and the hours, waiting for that perfect moment of synchronization. You used that standard to set your new watch, watching the seconds carefully to be sure they aligned. As children, if the alignment was off by even a fraction, we would reset it and start again.

This is the perfect picture of the spiritual life. Matthew 6:5 shows us that Jesus gave us a standard—not just for prayer, but for living. If your life isn't matching the "Standard Clock" of heaven, you are running on the wrong time.

The Holy Spirit: Our True North

Many of us rely on our own senses, but we must realize: your eyes and your brain do not know everything. The Holy Spirit was there before you arrived. He is the only one who truly knows the way.

To be in alignment means to follow the dictates of God. The Holy Spirit is so intimately interested in you that He wants to be involved in everything—to the extent that He can even choose the clothes you wear. When you set aside the Spirit to follow your own way, it is a grave mistake. Whether in your personal life or in a home where a couple is "doing otherwise" and following their own conflicting standards, the result is the same: error. You cannot expect a divine result from a human standard.

Ducklings, Clay, and Role Models

Consider the difference between a duck and a chicken. A duck aligns her children in front of her, watching them as they grow to ensure they stay on the path. Unlike the chicken, she leads by alignment.

Who is your role model? By whose standard are you measuring your life? We must remember our place: Can clay be perfect and know more than the Potter? Perhaps the reason you are not "making it" is simply because your standard is wrong. We must look to Enoch, who walked so closely with God, and to Abraham, whom God commanded to "walk before Me and be perfect."

The Grace of Recalibration

Even the greats drifted. David drifted in 2 Samuel 11, and it led to disaster. But it is never too late to put God back in the picture. If you are feeling fruitless today, you can recalibrate.

Don’t be a "Departmental Christian"—the kind of person where the "church part" of life is born again, but the "business part" or "private part" is "on fire" with the world. Christianity is not a partial upgrade; it is a 100% renewal of everything you are. As John 14:10 and 5:19 suggest, we must do only what we see the Father doing.

Conclusion: How to Come Back

If you have drifted from the dream God gave you, you must make a decision today based on Revelation 3:20. Jesus is knocking.

Respond to the Call: God is calling you through John 3:16.

Cry Out for Help: Like Jacob, you may have the hand of God on your life but still be out of alignment. Cry out to Him!

Walk Daily: Walk with God on a daily basis and make the Holy Spirit your only standard.

Learn at His Feet: Let God be your teacher, not your own ego.

Look to Jesus: Look unto Him, be evangelized by His truth, and obey His instructions.

The Call: Come to Jesus to recalibrate your life today. Don't destroy your beautiful dream by following a broken watch. Align yourself with the Standard of Heaven!
