Sermon Title: The Thoughts of Life and Destiny
Preacher: Bro Cyrus Olamilekan
Text: Hebrews 6:12
Introduction
It has been observed in life that certain occurrences seem difficult to explain, situations that challenge our understanding, test our faith, and sometimes cause us to question the direction of our lives. These experiences often shape our thoughts about life and destiny. However, Scripture encourages us in Hebrews 6:12 not to be slothful, but to follow those who, through faith and patience, inherit the promises. This reminds us that destiny is not accidental but is fulfilled through intentional alignment with God, sustained faith, and consistent obedience.
1. Divine Exemption in Unfavorable Conditions
In Genesis 26, the Bible records that there was famine in the land, a season marked by scarcity and hardship. Despite this widespread challenge, Isaac did not suffer lack like others because God provided a way for him to thrive in the midst of adversity. The Scripture notes that Isaac prospered greatly, demonstrating that when God is involved in a person’s life, prevailing circumstances do not determine their outcome. This teaches us that God has the power to preserve and provide for His people, even when the environment appears unfavorable.
2. The Necessity of Balance Through Fellowship with God
Life often demands that we juggle multiple responsibilities, including work, family, and spiritual commitments. However, when these areas are not properly balanced, they can hinder God’s purpose for our lives. The book of James 4:8 instructs us to draw near to God, with the assurance that He will draw near to us. This implies that maintaining a close relationship with God requires intentional effort. True balance in life is achieved when our connection with God remains strong, while imbalance in our spiritual life often leads to disorder in other areas. Therefore, prioritizing time with God is essential for a well-ordered and purposeful life.
3. The Principle of Sowing in Business and Service
God has endowed humanity with the capacity to create wealth and manage resources, but this comes with the responsibility of stewardship and diligence. The principle of sowing and reaping remains fundamental in both spiritual and practical life. When individuals invest generously, whether through service, time, or resources, they position themselves to reap abundantly. Success in business and service also requires the application of knowledge and technical skills. Thus, while faith is vital, it must be complemented by competence and consistent effort to yield meaningful results.
4. Commitment to Kingdom Service and Eternal Rewards
The Christian life goes beyond regular attendance at church services; it involves active participation in the work of God’s kingdom. Believers are called to lay up treasures in heaven through acts of service, compassion, and dedication. A life that lacks service may not fully reflect the purpose of salvation, as true faith expresses itself through meaningful contributions to others. Engaging in kingdom service not only blesses others but also secures eternal rewards. Even the simplest acts of kindness, such as bringing joy or relief to someone, hold significant value in God’s sight.
5. Confronting Fear and Advancing Toward Destiny
Many individuals struggle with pursuing their dreams due to fear, often influenced by stories of failure or uncertainty about the future. However, God’s intention for His people is not stagnation but progress and elevation. He calls us to move forward and aspire to greater heights. Although challenges may arise, they should not deter us from pursuing the destiny God has set before us. Courage, faith, and trust in God are essential in overcoming fear and advancing toward the fulfillment of divine purpose.
Conclusion
Life presents many complex and seemingly unsolvable situations that human understanding alone cannot adequately address. Yet, God remains the ultimate source of wisdom and solutions for every challenge. When we align our thoughts, decisions, and actions with His will, we are empowered to navigate life successfully and fulfill our destiny. Through faith, patience, service, and obedience, we can rise above limitations and inherit the promises God has prepared for us.
